Dog bite Settles for $20,000 in Southeast Michigan
Dog bite Settles for $20,000 in Southeast Michigan
The facts of this particular case are as follows:
Our client was out walking his dog in his neighborhood. His dog is a smaller dog and he usually took his dog on daily walks. On this particular day, as he was walking his dog past a neighbor’s house, two pit bulls came out of nowhere and were about to attack his dog. He quickly picked up his dog to protect it and the dogs attacked him. Fortunately, he only suffered a few minor puncture wounds on his hand that did not leave any scaring. Yet, he said he also suffered nerve damage. Unfortunately, he was never really able to treat with a doctor for this nerve damage due to some unrelated health conditions, but it bothered him quite a bit.
In Michigan there is a strict liability statute for the dog bites. This means that the dog owner is responsible for injuries sustained to a dog bite victim as long as the person did not provoke the dog into attacking. In this particular case our client had done nothing wrong and was simply walking his dog on a city sidewalk when attacked. He was very fortunate that these two vicious pit bulls did not seriously injure him or his dog. He got off lucky.
He was an older man so there was no lost wages and only a few medical bills. Both our firm and our client were satisfied with this settlement.
