Michigan no-fault insurance law changed on July 1, 2020. Your legal rights may be effected if you become involved in an auto accident. Also, you may have adjust your auto insurance coverage to ensure you are adequately covered.
No-fault auto insurance is required by law in Michigan. Every car owner must buy certain basic coverages in order to get license plates. It is against the law to drive or let your car be driven without no-fault insurance. If you have an auto accident, no-fault insurance pays for your medical expenses, wage loss benefits, replacement services, and the damage you do to other people’s property. It does not matter who caused the accident.
The required minimum no-fault policy will pay certain amounts if you are found legally responsible. You may purchase additional coverage, however be aware that your insurance company’s recommendation may be tilted in favor themselves—and not you. For example, they may suggest liability limits or minimal benefits that may not be in your best interest.
